About Gateway Counseling Services

We are:

Melvyn Schnall, Ph.D.

One of the original founders of

Gateway Counseling Services. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1964, has taught psychology at several colleges, has been a consultant regarding children and has many years of experience counseling adults with various problems. His current practice is primarily with adolescents and adult individuals and couples. He has special interest in parent consultation, recovery from addictions (including sexual “addictions”) couple therapy and adolescents and adults dealing with attention problems (ADD, ADHD).

Lawrence Frey, MA, LMFT, LMHC

Working at Gateway Counseling Services since its inception and a partner since 1997. He obtained his Master’s degree in 1975 and has completed all course requirements for the doctorate. He is also a Certified School Psychologist. In addition to his broad experience as a counselor to adults, he has done extensive psychological testing and in-school counseling of children and adolescent and has served for many years as a consultant to school personnel. His current practice is with persons of all ages. He has special interest in children’s school and personal adjustment problems, couples and family counseling, adult supervisors of trauma (PTSD) and other adult issues involving anxiety and depression.

Lillian Sober-Ain, Ph.D.

Is in independent practice at the facilities of Gateway Counseling Services and has been affiliated since its inception. She obtained her Ph.D. in 1980. She has a limited practice in Framingham on Tuesday mornings and has an office in Newton Centre. She works with adolescents and adults.
